Peace in the sky, peace in the mid-region, peace on earth, peace in the waters, peace in the herbs, peace in the trees, peace among all the gods, peace in Brahman, peace in everything — peace itself, and may that peace come to me.

Context

The verse works by enumeration: peace is named in each domain in turn, from the sky downward, before being asked for directly in the final clause. This is the source of the threefold śāntiḥ that closes so many recitations.
