Panch Badri — 5 Vishnu Shrines of the Alaknanda

The Panch Badri are five shrines of Vishnu in the Garhwal region of Uttarakhand, gathered around the Alaknanda and its tributaries. Badri Vishal — the Badrinath temple itself — is the best known and the only one most pilgrims reach. The remaining four are small, old and quiet: Yogadhyan Badri at Pandukeshwar, where the image is seated in meditation; Bhavishya Badri near Subhain, which tradition holds will become the principal shrine when the way to Badrinath is finally closed; Vridha Badri at Animath, said to be the older seat of the deity before Badrinath was established; and Adi Badri, a cluster of small stone temples near Karnaprayag. The circuit is part of the wider Sapta Badri tradition.
