Navaratri — nine nights, nine stories
One story for each night of Navaratri, the three battles of the Durga Saptashati, and the two stories behind Vijayadashami.
Read the explainer first, then one night a day — the nine forms of Durga in their traditional order, from the daughter of the mountain to the giver of perfection.
After the ninth night come the stories that are actually recited during Navaratri: the Devi Mahatmya, in its frame and its three battles. The list ends on the tenth day, with Rama and Arjuna.
